We believe in God\u2019s Spirit<\/strong>, Who Brings the Mystery of God into Our Hearts<\/p>

There are certain things you can\u2019t unsee.\u00a0 I once saw someone miraculously healed. It leaves quite an impression.\u00a0 My mom and dad were involved with something called the, \u201cCharismatic Movement\u201d back in the early eighties.\u00a0 I remember going to the, \u201cCopper Country Holy Spirit Conference,\u201d where I saw some really wild stuff.\u00a0 A faith healer came and called people out of the audience who had some ailment.\u00a0 He asked them to come up on stage where He would lay a hand on them and shout something like, \u201cIn the Name of Jesus, be healed!\u201d Usually they fell backward and were caught by a team of ushers.\u00a0 When they awakened after several minutes, some were miraculously healed.\u00a0 One of the people that this happened to was my piano teacher.\u00a0 She was a sweet lady in her 70\u2019s who had suffered from a life long debilitation (no, it was not being my piano teacher) After having the faith healer lay hands on her she was healed.\u00a0 She wasn\u2019t part of the show and I couldn\u2019t wrap my head around it.\u00a0 There also were hundreds of people speaking in tongues at the same time.\u00a0 Usually someone stepped up to the mic and interpreted a prophecy from God.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure I would have believed it if I hadn\u2019t been there and it hadn\u2019t happened to people I knew.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>

I have also witnessed God\u2019s spirit move in less dramatic ways.\u00a0 I have experienced preaching a sermon with the intentions of saying one thing and then watching myself say something different.\u00a0 Usually something better.\u00a0 Maybe I am noticing that the point I am making is not connecting and I change course almost in mid sentence.\u00a0 Sometimes it is like I am being played like and instrument, and other times it is more like God is using my experiences and abilities to regroup on the fly to convey something I didn\u2019t plan. \u00a0<\/p>

When I began my first call at Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, even the first time I went to worship I experienced God\u2019s spirit moving.\u00a0 It was not some supernatural, unexplainable thing but rather a feeling of genuineness and acceptance.\u00a0 I had heard that it was a church that was doomed to close.\u00a0 After worshiping there I knew the church there needed to stay open.\u00a0 At King of Glory, my other church, the spirit has been moving in the increased generosity, openness and commitment of its members.\u00a0 People visit there and are welcomed with warmth and caring.\u00a0 The point is it isn\u2019t always dramatic.\u00a0 Sometimes the Spirit moves in small ways that lead to big things.<\/p>

What I have learned about God\u2019s Spirit is that it works best when in tandem with our human spirt.\u00a0 When we stop seeing our humanity as getting in the way of the Spirit and embrace our brokenness and vulnerability. \u00a0 As we are healed by the kindness and humanity of one another through God\u2019s Spirit, we become agents of the Spirit to build up the church for the sake of the world.\u00a0 Yes, it is often messy and not something you can control or script.\u00a0 It is often in looking back that you can see where God\u2019s Spirit has moved. \u00a0<\/p><\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
